| Changing the water | In a domestic environment the same water could be used 3-4 times, depending on number of bathers and particulate pollution. If you know you are not going to use the tub again shortly, empty the Tub after each bathing. |
| Heating the fresh water | From tap temperature to 36°C it takes 3 - 6 hours, depending on outdoor temperature. |
| Re-heating the water | About one hour. Thanks to the insulation properties of cedar wood, temperature drops only 3 - 6 °C in 24hours after stopping the maintenance of fire. |
| Sanitizing | Domestic use: Frequent water changes and antibacterial properties of Western Red Cedar wood are the core aspects for avoiding chemicals use. We recommend no-synthetic chemical agents such eucalyptus-based disinfectants and ECOVER sanitizer empowered with pure, concentrated tea-tree oil. Hydrogen peroxide-based products or synthetic chemicals agents could also be used, however these products must be rinsed down thoroughly and precisely so the bathing water is pure and chemicals-free. In our hiring business: We hand-wash our Tubs with hydrogen peroxide and eucalyptus-based disinfectant in combination with concentrated tea-tree oil. In public places such hotels: We supply accessories to make the maintenance and use of the Tubs safe for public. These are only created on order and installed after a precise quotation, please drop us an email should you wish to know more. |
| Cleaning after emptying | Step1: Pour 2 litres of disinfectant into the water 1 hour prior to emptying and stir well. Step2: While the woodwork is still wet, spray thoroughly with ECO-sanitizer enriched with concentrated tea-tree oil and scrub all accessible parts well with a soft brush or a sponge Step3: Rinse down well Step4: Re-fill with clean water, either full if bathing is to follow shortly, or leave 10cm of water on the bottom of the Tub and cover. |
| Maintenance | The outer wood: Cedar oil, teak oil or similar garden furniture treatments can be applied once a year. Cedar can also be left untreated so it will gain silver colour over the years. When not used, never leave your wooden tub empty and dry, especially during hot summer days. Leave approx. 10cm of water in a clean Tub and cover. Check the water level in the Tub regularly. If needed, re-fill and re-cover. |
| Cleaning of the heater | There is no need to completely empty the heater in order to clean it. Wood burns well on the bed of its own ash and so heater-cleaning needs to be done only after 3-4 fires. |
| Flue sweeping | The flue does not need sweeping. With a good fire and the air cup fully open the flames may reach the top of the chimney which stops a build-up of tar or soot inside. |
FAQ follow:
How do I empty my wooden swedish style hot tub?
We supply you with a tap and hose tail allowing you to water your garden with the Hot Tub´s contents. A drain hole with a plug is provided for total emptying.
How do I clean the ash out of the heater?
There is no need to completely empty the heater in order to clean it. Wood does burn well on a bed of its own ash so heater-cleaning need to be done only after 4 - 5 fires. Most people can reach it with a shovel or scoop, once the embers are cold. You can buy a long-handled dust pan & brush from us as an accessory.
How often will the flue need sweeping?
The flue should not need sweeping. With a good fire and air cap fully open, the flame may reach the top of the chimney which will stop any build-up of tar and soot inside.
How long would you expect the Tub to last?
Western Red Cedar is one of the most rot-resistant timbers known. Given good maintenance, your wood fired Swedish Hot Tub should last more than 20 years happily.
What doest the Tub need to stand on - do I need a special concrete slab, etc...?
Your Hot Tub needs a 7´circle (2,2m) of flat concrete, flagstone or gravel. We will prepare the gravel-base for you which is included in the price. This is the most eco-friendly and practical option, as to remove it is much easier than a concrete base, should you decide to move your Tub to a different spot. However, we can prepare a concrete- or flagstone-base for you if you wish to.
How heavy is the Tub - will it be OK on my decking?
When full and occupied, your Hot Tub will weigh about 2 tons. It must therefore stand on a solid base. As long as the levels allow Tub draining to take place and there is no obstruction to airflow around the base, your Hot Tub can be sunken, or have decking build around it.
Will the wood shrink in a dry summer if the Tub is not used?
Yes, if left empty and without cover on. We recommend ( after draining and cleaning ) that you refill to 1-2´´ (5cm) and fit a cover.
Will the wood fade and do I need to treat it with a protector like my garden furniture?
The wood may fade or discolour over time depending on the location of the Tub. You can apply similar wood protector to the one you use for your garden furniture to the exterior of the Tub.
